Developing a synthetic route for small molecules can be a challenging endeavor. One that can be exponentially more difficult when the synthesis is part of a potential manufacturing process. Safety, cost, and practicality necessitates that process chemists and engineers select from a fraction of the reaction toolbox that a medicinal chemist has at their disposal. However, continuous flow chemistry can overcome many of these challenges for a number of important reactions and is transforming the way chemists and engineers think about developing a safe, efficient, and cost effective manufacturing process. This presentation will highlight some of the most impactful advances in continuous flow reaction technologies and how they will be shaping small molecule manufacturing.
